Evergreen Classic Footing In Good Hands

by Katherine Wade-Easley June 1, 2012 in Shows

When deciding which horse show is a favorite, everyone has a different priority– which one has the most prize money, the best exhibitor parties or the coolest prizes. But when it comes to picking which horse show is the best one for your horse, Trainers, Exhibitors and Owners alike all have the same priority; footing.

Everyone loves the beautiful setting  of the Remlinger Farm’s Equestrian Park; Mount Rainer off in the distance, the grass fields and trees for as far as the eye can see. But getting the footing right has posed a challenge over the years. The WSHJA and Show Manager, Dianne Johnson, knew that the footing had to be addressed in order to make this show a win for riders and horses. With that in mind, Hans Van Meenen was hired to make it work.

For those of you unfamiliar with Hans, a drive down to Bend, OR and a trip around the grass fields at the Oregon High Desert Classic horse show will give you an idea of why the WSHJA chose Hans to be their man. With beautifully groomed fields that last for two weeks of horse showing in both heat and wet, Hans has proven his skills with grass as he developed a scruffy blackberry field into a beautiful hunter/jumper show.  More...

2012 Evergreen Classic: A Message From the Board

by WSHJA Shows April 26, 2012 in Announcements, Shows

For 2012 there are significant changes for the Evergreen Classic Benefit Horse Show.  The WSHJA Board of Directors would like to share the following message regarding these changes and the investments being made on behalf of the membership:

Show season is upon us, and, once again, WSHJA is proud to bring you the 2012 Spring National Show Circuit, the Northwest Autumn Classic and the October Classic. We hope that you enjoyed these shows last year and we look forward to bringing you another year filled with worthy competition, wonderful hospitality and a winning spirit.

This year, WSHJA is hosting the Evergreen Classic Benefit Horse Show for the first time in several years. The Evergreen Classic has a 30+ year history in the Pacific Northwest as our premier horse show, providing the opportunity to show on the grass and giving us the chance to all come together and celebrate with parties under the tents, fantastic hunter derby events and a challenging Grand Prix.  We have hired Dianne Johnson as the Show Manager; we are excited to see Dianne in action as she puts together another fantastic show for the WSHJA community.

Previously, there has been some concern in regard to the condition of the footing of this show since it’s been held at the Remlinger grounds in Carnation. We want you to know that we are doing everything we can to ensure that the footing will be safe and suitable for our horses. Along those lines, we have hired Hans Van Meenen to assess the footing and give us a plan for the year which we are implementing immediately. Hans is extremely well respected in the field of show grounds footing. He is responsible for the grounds at HITS Desert Horse Park in Thermal California and others in both the US and Canada. Hans has assured us that he will be bringing his vast wealth of knowledge to our show – giving us the ability to not only improve the footing for this year, but to continue to care for it so that it flourishes in the following years – providing us with a continued investment in the future of The Classic. The Evergreen Classic is a show with a long history in Washington State, and we, as a board, are excited about continuing the legacy of this horse show.  We want to communicate to you, our members, that we are committed to doing whatever it takes to make this show a wonderful experience for all.

For those of you who want this show to be a success as much as we do, we need your help! We are pulling everything together, but we need YOU! We are looking for sponsors, of all levels, to help with the show effort. And we need all kinds of volunteers. In order for The Classic to be the show that we all want it to be, we must come together as a community and work toward that goal. We hope that, by stating our commitment to you, you too, will find yourself willing to help in whatever way possible to ensure The Evergreen Classic reaches the high standards we have all come to look for in this top rated show.

There are many ways to get involved. Please take a moment to look through the sponsorship opportunity documents and the volunteer opportunity document.
